What Is the Plan B Mounting System? A Suppressor Mount Overview

The Plan B mounting system, originally developed by Q®, has become a widely adopted suppressor attachment method in the industry. The Plan B system is a very popular option for those utilizing a HUB compatible suppressor due to the simple and effective design, combined with significant aftermarket support of the system. While the Plan B mounting system is used by various manufacturers, you may also hear it referred to as the “Atlas” system by some, a naming convention popularized by aftermarket products like the Rearden Atlas. However, all these systems are based on the original Plan B design and specifications and cross compatible. Since there are a handful of systems on the market utilizing a threaded and tapered interface, if using various manufacturers mounts and muzzle devices, make sure to check that they are both “Plan B” compatible.

This system uses a tapered interface and fine threads to securely attach a silencer or adapter to the muzzle device. It's known for its reliance on precise tolerances rather than mechanical locking components like springs or ratchet-style systems, which helps reduce the risk of failure associated with wearable parts. The design creates a tight seal that traps carbon in front of the taper, keeping it off the threads and exterior of the mount. The system features standard right-hand threads and was designed for tool-less installation and removal.

One thing worth pointing out:

The Plan B mounting interface itself doesn’t change with caliber — the external threads and taper dimensions are standardized across all Plan B muzzle devices and adapters. That’s great for modularity, but it also means it’s easy to accidentally mix up gear. Just because a 5.56 silencer with a Plan B adapter threads onto a 7.62 muzzle device doesn’t mean it should. Bore clearance matters. If you’re running multiple suppressors across different calibers, it’s on you to double-check that your system is properly matched and always use an alignment rod before use, as with any silencer mounting system. The system won’t stop you from doing something unsafe — so make sure you’re not setting yourself up for a baffle strike.
