A5 Buffers
The VLTOR A5 buffer system was developed at the request of the United States Marine Corps and is one of the more meaningful upgrades available to the AR platform, improving reliability, accuracy, and cyclic consistency.
A5 buffers use biasing springs between each weight to hold the weights in position at all times, which reduces inconsistency in mass movement during cycling. For anyone tuning a rifle to a specific gas system, barrel length, or suppressor, the five available weights are what make the system worth running.

Which Weight Do I Need?
Per SOLGW's recommendations, a 5.56 rifle of any barrel length without a Law Tactical folder runs well with a Sprinco Green spring and an A5H2. With a Law Tactical folder, the same setup with an A5H1 is recommended for 5.56 barrel lengths up to 16 inches.
If you are running a suppressor, the increased backpressure generally calls for more mass. We would start with a Sprinco Green and an A5H3.
Compatibility
A5 buffers are only compatible with VLTOR A5 buffer system components. They are longer than traditional carbine buffers and cannot be used in standard carbine receiver extensions. You will need an A5 length receiver extension and a rifle length spring. We stock three: the VLTOR RE-A5, the RE-10/A5SR, and the Forward Controls Design RE5F.
