Hot White Intermediate Power Carbine Buffer Spring
An intermediate power carbine buffer spring for 5.56 AR-15s, loaded between the standard White and the enhanced Blue. Color coded red and white.
How It Came About
The Hot White started as a production accident. A run of White springs came in with loads sitting perfectly between the White and Blue design specs, so Sprinco set them aside and ran the Whites again to correct spec.
Then customers started calling asking for exactly that: something between a White and a Blue. The discarded springs went out on a trial basis, turned out to be what those builds needed, and the Hot White became a product.
If you would rather run a mil-spec carbine spring than tune to perfection, this is a good choice in most cases to improve on it without going further.
Which Sprinco Spring Do You Need?
Sprinco color codes every spring so you can identify what is in a rifle without pulling it apart. For AR-15 carbine buffer tubes, lightest to heaviest:
- Yellow, reduced power — roughly 20% lighter than White, for Simunition, SRTA, and lightweight competition rifles
- White, standard power — the load of a brand new mil-spec M4 spring
- Hot White, intermediate power — this one, between White and Blue
- Blue, enhanced power — roughly 15% greater than White
- Red, extra power — roughly 25% greater than White, for over gassed carbines and heavier cartridges
- Orange, extra extra power — stouter than Red, for DPMS pattern .308 carbines
For a rifle length tube, including the VLTOR A5, use the Green rifle length spring.
The Wire
Sprinco springs are made from chrome silicon wire stock, the same material used in Formula One and motor valve springs, where a spring may see up to 15 million compression cycles in a single race. A carbine will see a fraction of that over its life.
Each spring is heat treated, shot peened, and treated with a proprietary formula intended to hold spring rate over time.
