Blue Enhanced Power Carbine Buffer Spring
An enhanced power carbine buffer spring, roughly 15% greater than the White on one of the load constants in the spring design. Color coded blue.
Where It Came From
Mike Pannone of CTT Solutions modified one of Sprinco's Red springs and encouraged them to offer a production spring at that load, to address the demands of platforms sitting between the White and the Red.
Where It Fits
The common recommendation is a Blue with an H2 or ST-T2 buffer on 14.5 to 16 inch midlength carbines.
Sprinco is careful to say nothing is set in stone. Gas port values vary enormously across barrels, and that variation has only widened over the years. Treat the recommendation as a starting point for tuning rather than a fixed answer.
Which Sprinco Spring Do You Need?
Sprinco color codes every spring so you can identify what is in a rifle without pulling it apart. For AR-15 carbine buffer tubes, lightest to heaviest:
- Yellow, reduced power — roughly 20% lighter than White, for Simunition, SRTA, and lightweight competition rifles
- White, standard power — the load of a brand new mil-spec M4 spring
- Hot White, intermediate power — between White and Blue
- Blue, enhanced power — this one, roughly 15% greater than White
- Red, extra power — roughly 25% greater than White, for over gassed carbines and heavier cartridges
- Orange, extra extra power — stouter than Red, for DPMS pattern .308 carbines
For a rifle length tube, including the VLTOR A5, use the Green rifle length spring.
The Wire
Sprinco springs are made from chrome silicon wire stock, the same material used in Formula One and motor valve springs, where a spring may see up to 15 million compression cycles in a single race. A carbine will see a fraction of that over its life.
Each spring is heat treated, shot peened, and treated with a proprietary formula intended to hold spring rate over time.
