NORTH AMERICAN RESCUE
Combat Application Tourniquet (C-A-T), Gen 7
The genuine North American Rescue C-A-T, the official tourniquet of the U.S. Army since 2005. A true one-handed tourniquet designed for prehospital control of severe extremity bleeding.
Buy the Real One
Counterfeit CAT tourniquets are widely sold online and they fail under load. This is a genuine NAR product, sourced through authorized distribution.
On a piece of equipment you may only use once, provenance matters more than price.
How It Works
The C-A-T uses a patented band within a band design, with a free-moving internal band that applies true circumferential pressure around the limb. Tightening the windlass occludes blood flow, and the windlass then locks into place.
A hook and loop retention strap secures the windlass so pressure holds during casualty movement. The dual securing system avoids screws and clips, which become difficult to operate under stress or when fine motor skills are compromised.
What Changed in Gen 7
A single routing buckle replaces the previous two-slot design. That means faster application, more effective slack removal, fewer windlass turns, and one application protocol to train rather than two.
NAR's Red Tip Technology elliptical tab gives a visual reference during application.
Training
A tourniquet in a bag you have never applied is not much use. NAR publishes free educational materials covering correct application, and a dedicated training tourniquet is worth having so you are not practicing on the one you carry.
