LSFA Low Snag Forward Assist
The LSFA is a joint design between Hodge Defense Systems and Forward Controls Design. Smooth top and bottom to avoid snagging, with a plunger pad that extends inward toward the bore for more surface area. Available with the AA dimpled surface or serrated.
The Problem It Solves
Ambidextrous charging handles are a clear improvement, but they put your fingernail and knuckle directly in the path of a standard forward assist's rim when you pull the right side latch to load or reload. That rim catches.
Both companies arrived at the problem independently in 2019 and were developing separate solutions. Rather than duplicate the work, they built one part together.
LSFA or LDFA?
FCD's approach with the LDFA was to remove the rim entirely and accept a smaller footprint, reasoning that the forward assist is not a frequently used control. Hodge's Mod2 went the other way, borrowing from the A1 teardrop forward assist to keep more surface area while staying snag free.
The LSFA takes both. It keeps the low snag profile of the LDFA and adds back the pad area of the teardrop design. If you actually use the forward assist and want something to press, this is the one. If you want the smallest possible footprint, take the LDFA.
Either way, the FCD ACF is the matching ambi charging handle.
