12.5" 5.56 Cold Hammer Forged Barrel
Designed and made to Jim Hodge's specifications, cold hammer forged from FN's proprietary steel. Developed to give a wider operating envelope across a variety of commercially available ammunition.
The Gas Port Change
The port on this barrel is 0.064 inches, slightly up from the original 0.0625. That change was made to better accommodate flow-through and low backpressure suppressors, which have become far more common than they were when the original spec was set.
A small difference on paper, and the reason the rifle cycles correctly with a modern can on the end of it.
FN Steel
The barrel uses FN's proprietary steel, the same alloy FN uses in the M249 SAW. Cold hammer forged, chrome lined, and phosphate coated.
Which Length?
All three run the same FN steel, 1:7 twist, .750 journal, and 1/2x28 threads. The gas system is what changes.
Building the Rest of the Upper
The .750 journal takes the Hodge .750 low profile gas block, which is pre-drilled for pinning.
At this length the 10.75 inch handguards are the natural pairing, in either Pinch Lock or Spine Lock. Hodge also makes a C158 bolt carrier group.
