GPT Gas Tube Pin Tool
The GPT is a jig built for one job: installing and removing the gas tube roll pin on an AR-15 or M16 low profile gas block. Machined in 6061 aluminum and Type III hard coat anodized. A collaboration between Forward Controls Design and Modern Armory.
Why You Need a Jig for This
Most low profile gas blocks have no flats. Holding one steady while starting a tiny roll pin takes about three hands. The GPT holds the block so you can work with one hand on the block and one on the punch.
The base is thick and wide for stability and rebated so you can clamp it in a vise. There is a scalloped recess for finger access, and the corners and edges are rounded.
Even the green anodizing is functional. Most gas blocks are black, and working on a black part sitting in a black jig is harder than it needs to be. The contrast makes the block stand out.
A small neodymium magnet placed on the gas block will hold the roll pin upright and perpendicular above the pin hole, which is enough to get it started with one hand free.
Gas Block Compatibility
The GPT is made for Crane Mk12 pattern low profile gas blocks, which are 1 inch long. That covers most low profile blocks based on the original Crane design, including Modern Armory, BCM, Rainier, VLTOR, Knight's Armament, Badger Ordnance, Daniel Defense, and SLR, along with FCD's own GBF .750 and GBF .625 gas blocks.
Measure your gas block before ordering. Some are longer than the Crane pattern. Maximum length is 1.00 inches, maximum height 1.35 inches. The GPT can be modified to take longer blocks if needed.
Known incompatible: Aero, Luth-AR, DPMS, and adjustable gas blocks.
